At Er-Bakır, with over 40 years of industry experience, we consider sustainability not only in production but also in human resources and environmental practices as a vital part of our corporate culture.

We ensure that not even a single gram of the copper used in our production is wasted, emphasizing sustainable resource utilization by reprocessing materials.

We accept the efficient and effective use of water as an integral part of our core policy and strategic plans. To this end, we continuously monitor water usage in our facilities and implement action plans to minimize consumption. Using the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, we assess and manage water resource risks, thereby supporting water sustainability.

By focusing on renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels, we reduce carbon emissions and minimize water usage by leveraging solar energy for power. This approach helps us conserve water resources and reduce our environmental footprint.

We are committed to efficient water resource usage and minimizing environmental impacts by focusing on wastewater recovery and chemical treatment processes.

In all our activities, we aim to enhance energy efficiency, limit our impact on the climate, reduce greenhouse gases and other air emissions, manage resources efficiently through alternative or renewable energy sources, and reduce our environmental footprint.

Our sustainable and clean production practices are categorized under two main headings:

Waste reduction at the source and minimization of resource consumption.

Reuse and/or recycling.

Water Management

As ER-BAKIR, we consider the demands of process and manufacturing activities and focus on the sustainable use of natural resources. Ensuring the efficient use of water and monitoring water quality and consumption are integral parts of our strategic planning and core policy.

Our company continues its efforts with the awareness that wastewater can also be an alternative resource to further reduce the environmental impacts of water discharges. In line with our sustainability efforts, we continuously monitor the amount of water used in all activities, including emulsification, cooling, irrigation, and cleaning, and develop action plans to reduce consumption.

 

Our company effectively implements the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System to assess and manage water-related risks. 

In order to ensure the sustainability of water resources, we attach importance to production processes and the technologies that support them, and we realize our investments in this direction. 


For this ;

  • Monitoring water consumption and eliminating water leakages,

  • Prefers Dry Processes,

  • It sets targets and regulations to reduce chemical consumption,

  • It organizes washing and rinsing processes,

  • Closed circuit systems are becoming widespread in cooling systems,

  • It creates storage systems for rainwater harvesting,

  • It is re-planning the process for less energy consumption in the waste treatment plant,

  • Projects and investments for waste heat recovery,

  • It carries out training activities to increase the awareness and consciousness of employees,

Renewable Energy Production and Use: Solar Power Plants (GES)

By utilizing alternative energy sources with lower carbon emissions, we reduce our fossil fuel consumption and stand out with an alternative energy usage rate that exceeds the industry average.

As a company, we focus on alternative energy sources with lower carbon emissions, reduce our fossil fuel consumption, and stand out with an alternative energy usage rate that exceeds the industry average. With a 4.5 MW installed capacity of our solar power plant (GES), we meet 12% of our electricity consumption through renewable energy sources.

Chemical Treatment and Water Recovery

We significantly reduce the consumption of water resources through the recovery of wastewater. By reusing treated and discharged water, we recycle wastewater and protect natural resources. In doing so, we minimize the environmental impacts caused by wastewater.

At our wastewater treatment facility, commissioned in 1992, we treat wastewater generated from production using physical, chemical, and biological treatment methods.

Heat Recovery and Energy Efficiency

In 2023, through the implementation of the "Waste Heat Recovery from Continuous Casting Chimney" project, steam production was achieved using recovered waste heat. This project now supplies 4% of our steam consumption.

In all our activities, we aim to enhance energy efficiency, limit impacts on the climate, reduce greenhouse gas and other air emissions, utilize alternative or renewable energy sources in copper wire and rod production processes, and ensure the effective management of resources by using alternative raw materials in our production processes.

While continuing our operations, we consider reducing our environmental footprint one of our top priorities. To this end, we strive to maximize energy efficiency in our facilities, source energy from clean resources, reduce greenhouse gas and other pollutant emissions, increase recovery rates with a circular economy perspective, implement an effective waste management hierarchy aligned with the zero-waste approach across all sites, and protect biodiversity to minimize environmental impacts.
